This is a major sulfur specimen from classic finds of the late 19th or early 20th century. Shocking and pure lemon-yellow color of elemental sulfur which has formed into beautiful and perfect crystals. The combination of color and geometry is unique in the mineral world. These crystals reach 3.5 cm in size. This is a significant piece for the crystal style, size, quality, and how they are perched isolated on a contrasting matrix (host rock) of white aragonite. These specimens, with this style of sharp crystal on white matrix, only come out of old collections. Mike Scott was widely known in the world as a collector of art and gemstones, but he loved his minerals passionately, and above all those that were either historic or rare species. With his science and technology background, he found the elements particularly fascinating and had several examples of native elements in the collection. This was his finest sulfur specimen, purchased in the early 2000s from an old collection as it came to market with Rolf Wein of Stuttgart.
