COMPLETE SLICE OF SEYMCHAN PALLASITE

Pallasite – PMG;Magadan District, Siberia, Russia (62°54’ N, 152°26’ E)

Estimation : 2000 - 3000 USD

Résultat : 3 556 USD

Similar to lots 36,42 and 52. Seymchan is an unusual transitional pallasite. Some specimens from this meteorite shower are filled with olivine while some have none at all. And then there are the most interesting specimens, those with novel dispersions of olivine resulting in every specimen being unique. Pallasites formed at the core-mantle boundary of an asteroid; molten metal from the core mixed with olivine settling downwards from the mantle. This complete slice reveals both olivine-rich aggregates with minor amounts of interstitial metal as well as metal-rich regions with little olivine. The olivine-rich regions provide a glimpse of the bottom of the mantle of the parent asteroid where olivine grains crystallized from a silicate melt and settled toward the core. The metal-rich regions represent the core beneath the olivine-rich layer. Of the approximately 78,000 meteorites documented as of November 1st 2025, exactly 200 are pallasites and many have no translucent crystals. Featuring a channel of polished metal extending from its apex with assemblages of olivine and peridot crystals along the sides, this complete triangular slice of Seymchan amply illustrates why pallasites are the most beautiful extraterrestrial substance known.
