CRYSTALLIZED GOLD ON QUARTZ
Estimation : 28000 - 35000 USD
Résultat : 6 985 USD
This elegant specimen consists of completely crystallized natural gold in intricate arrangements, forming a thick layer upon white crystals of quartz, all on a natural pedestal of matrix for easy display. The gold crystals form a complete, heavy "net" sitting firmly upon the underlaying quartz making for dramatic and full display. With a highly detailed crystallization these gold specimens are famous among collectors. The mine is known for producing distinctive gold mineral specimens, although production is very unpredictable. It is a working gold mine so specimen production cannot get in the way of the larger purposes of the mine, which is to move massive tonnage into massive truckloads for smelting and crushing. Gold specimen production is much more laborious and, despite the aesthetic value of gold specimens, it is not economic for such big commercial mines to save, preserve, and bring to market these specimens for collectors. This specimen came from a large production that was authorised by the mining company and brought to market by an onsite auction to specimen and bullion dealers at the time, in the 1990s. It was purchased in a bulk lot and later prepared and sold to Mike Scott for his worldwide collection of gems and minerals. Mike Scott had a passionate love for gemstones and jewellery arts, and therefore also for the raw minerals and gemstone species of crystals that were the source of such beauty in gems and jewels. He prided himself on seeking out unusual and important, often large, examples of the various forms of rough materials used for gems and jewellery; and after his time as CEO at Apple, built a large collection of gemstones accented by these natural mineral specimens. With a custom lucite base for display. 9.3 x 5 x 4 cm. (3.6 x 1.9 x 1.5in.) and 212 g.
